Early Childhood Afternoon Educator - Akiba Schechter Jewish Day School

Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School seeks an Early Childhood Afternoon Educator for the 2024-2025 school year. We seek a thoughtful, caring and responsible person who has experience with children. The ideal candidate will be expected to supervise a group of children and coordinate with other afternoon teachers.

About Akiba Schechter Jewish Day School Early Childhood Program:

Akiba-Schechter’s Early Childhood Program is a community based preschool located in Hyde Park. Through a focus on the individual child, play-based learning, and a Reggio-Inspired approach, Akiba-Schechter offers a unique and superb educational experience where children thrive and childhood is celebrated. General duties include:

• Develop positive relationships with all children and families
• Work with students ages 2-5 
• Coordinate with other afternoon teachers
• Create a loving and caring environment
• Facilitate and supervise play-based activities
• Support children’s social emotional growth

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience working with young children
• Belief in the ability of all children to learn and succeed
• Experience developing strong connections and relationships with children and families
• Positive energy and can-do attitude
• Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and verbal skills
• Flexibility and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge about Reggio Inspired learning or the ability to learn about this approach

Hours & Vacation:

• Monday - Thursday from 3pm - 5:15pm
• All Federal and Jewish holidays observed by the school
• Two week Winter break in December/January; 1.5 to 2 week Spring break during Passover

This is a part time, in-person position with a salary commensurate with experience.

Akiba-Schechter is always looking for talented educators to join our team. This position may include opportunities to work in our preschool classrooms and additional substitute teaching hours.
