Schechter Bergen Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities:
- Teach and develop skills in physical education and health, guided by agreed upon school curriculum standards and students’ developmental needs
- Develop student leadership, teamwork, social skills, positivity in a safe and inclusive environment
- Establish and reinforce clear expectations and routines as per Responsive Classroom model
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required, including the completion of report cards
- Inspect equipment and field areas to ensure they are in safe and working conditions
- Monitor student learning on a continual basis and intervene when necessary
The ideal candidate has:
- A Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Physical Education;
- Experience working with children in a physical education setting in both elementary and middle school settings;
- Understanding of child/adolescent development and how social emotional factors impact learning;
- Ability to build relationships with students that foster a positive environment where students feel safe;
- Willingness to coach after-school sports such as soccer, basketball, or volleyball;
- Collaboration and communication skills that allow them to work well on a team as a co-teacher.
