Position and Location:
The Director of Early Learning will report administratively to the VP of Pre-School. The primary work location is Temple Ohav Shalom (TOS), located at 8400 Thomson Run Road, Allison Park, PA 15101. Occasional attendance at events in community-based locations within the Greater Pittsburgh area may be required.

Accountabilities and Expectations:

  • Work Schedule:

    • Average of 25 hours per week.
  • Educational Philosophy:

    • Foster the ongoing development and implementation of the Reggio-Emilia educational philosophy across all TOSCEL educators.
    • Collaborate with educators to develop and review schedules and routines that support this approach.
  • Staff Management:

    • Recruit, hire, train, support, and supervise all TOSCEL educators, substitute educators, contract employees, office staff, and volunteers.
  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Oversee and maintain all clearances, professional documentation, security procedures, and policies to ensure a safe, secure, and professional working and educational environment.
  • Admissions and Tours:

    • Organize and facilitate admissions tours and visits for prospective students and their families.
  • Communication:

    • Establish a culture of open communication between educators and parents through consistent use of platforms like email and other online tools.
  • Jewish Values Integration:

    • Collaborate with spiritual leadership to incorporate Jewish values and learning into the identity of TOSCEL.
  • Meetings and Representation:

    • Attend, participate, and represent TOSCEL in Temple staff meetings, TOSCEL Leadership Team meetings, Board of Directors (BOD) meetings, and community events as appropriate.
    • Prepare and present TOSCEL performance reports for BOD Meetings.
    • Participate in other committees or teams as assigned.
  • Community Engagement:

    • Maintain open communication with TOS members through monthly updates to the Temple newsletter and regular TOSCEL Facebook updates.
    • Coordinate with lay leadership of TOS family engagement programs like Shalom Tots and PJ Library to plan yearly calendars, support activities, provide resources, and maintain communications with families with young children.
  • Professional Development:

    • Stay informed of significant developments and trends in child development, early childhood education, and Jewish learning.
    • Participate in local and national professional networks for meetings, professional development, and community events.
  • Budget and Strategic Planning:

    • Prepare TOSCEL annual budget projections in consultation with the Temple Treasurer and ELC Leadership Team.
    • Develop and maintain a strategic plan for the growth of the CEL, including revenue building and sustainability.
