About Us
The Frances Jacobson Early Childhood Center at Temple Israel (FJECC) is a warm, relationship-centered Jewish early childhood community serving children ages 15 months through 5 years in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area.
Our approach is child-centered, play-based, and developmentally informed. We believe children learn through relationships, and we place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development, individual dignity, curiosity, and connection. Jewish values and the Jewish calendar are woven naturally into the life of our school and the relationships we build with children, families, and one another. 

Position Overview
We are seeking a Part-Time Early Childhood Whole School Teacher to join our afternoon team, Monday through Friday from 12:00–5:30 PM.

This is an unusually dynamic teaching role. You’ll work across our toddler and preschool classrooms, provide coverage and support to teaching teams, and help create a smooth transition from the regular school day into our late-afternoon Stay & Play program.
We’re looking for someone who can enter different classrooms, quickly understand what children and colleagues need, and contribute without needing everything to look the same from room to room. You should be comfortable taking initiative while also respecting the routines, relationships, and systems already in place. 
For the right educator, this position also offers room to grow into greater responsibility and potentially a full-time role in the future. 

Key Responsibilities

• Support toddler and preschool classrooms from midday through dismissal.
• Move between classrooms as needed to provide breaks, coverage, and additional teaching support.
• Engage children in developmentally appropriate, play-based experiences indoors and outdoors.
• Help maintain the structure, routines, and relationships that allow children to move smoothly through the afternoon.
• Work collaboratively with morning and afternoon teachers so important information follows each child throughout their day.
• Gather relevant information from classroom teachers and communicate it warmly and accurately to families at pickup.
• Take initiative when a classroom needs leadership or support while respecting each teaching team’s established practices.
• Contribute ideas and observations that strengthen the afternoon program.

Qualifications
We’re more interested in your ability to work thoughtfully with children, families, and colleagues than in checking every possible credential box.
We’re looking for someone who:

• Can build warm, responsive relationships with children while providing clear structure and expectations.
• Communicates comfortably and professionally with families and colleagues.
• Can move between different classrooms and age groups and adjust quickly when plans change.
• Notices what needs to happen and is comfortable taking appropriate initiative.
• Can receive feedback, collaborate, and respect systems developed by other members of the team.
• Is willing to obtain Massachusetts EEC Teacher certification if not already certified. FJECC can support the coursework needed to work toward certification within the first six months. Pasted text

Preferred, but not required:

• EEC Teacher certification and First Aid/CPR certification. 
• Has experience working with young children in a school, childcare, camp, after-school, or related setting.

Compensation & Benefits
$25–$30/hour

• Transportation reimbursement/monthly T pass.
• Support for professional development and relevant coursework.
• Financial support toward coursework needed for EEC Teacher certification.
• A school calendar that generally follows Brookline Public Schools and includes closures for Jewish holidays.
• A 10-month school-year position with opportunities for summer work.
• Potential to grow into a larger or full-time role as FJECC expands its year-round programming.
